Charlotte Knights News Release

(Fort Mill, SC) - Charlotte left-handed pitcher Leyson Septimo, who owns a 2-1 record with one save and a 1.48 ERA in 21 games this season for the Knights, had his contract purchased by the Chicago White Sox, as announced earlier today by Chicago. Septimo takes the place of LHP Will Ohman, who was designated for assignment by Chicago.

Septimo, 26, becomes the sixth Charlotte Knights player this season to go from Charlotte to Chicago. RHP Dylan Axelrod, LHP Eric Stults, LHP Jose Quintana, OF Jordan Danks, and RHP Brian Bruney are the others.

A native of the Dominican Republic, Septimo got off to a great start to the 2012 season. He began the year by not allowing a run in his first seven games and finished the month of April with a 2-0 mark with one save and a 0.00 ERA in 10.2 innings pitched (six games). For the season, left-handed batters are hitting just .095 (4-42) against him.

Last season, the White Sox claimed Septimo off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks on June 13, 2011. In 22 games with Double-A Birmingham last year, the southpaw went 2-1 with a 4.10 ERA in 22 games.

Septimo was originally signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks on February 19, 2003 as a position player. In 426 at-bats over five Minor League seasons, Septimo produced a .254 batting average with 15 home runs and 160 RBIs.
