LAWRENCEVILLE, GA. - The Gwinnett Braves have announced the recipients of the club's May and June $1,000 grants, honoring deserving organizations in Gwinnett County or its surrounding communities that best exemplify a monthly theme. The Cancer Awareness themed May grant has been awarded to the Southeastern Gynecologic Oncology (or SEGO) We Care Foundation. The Summer Safety themed June grant has been awarded to The Medical Center Foundation, Inc.

SEGO-We Care Foundation was deemed to best exemplify the Cancer Awareness theme for May, honoring an organization that brings awareness to cancer prevention and detection or raises funds for cancer research. The foundation provides support programs and addresses all aspects of the gynecologic cancer patient including empowering women and their caregivers with knowledge and support, as well as spreading awareness of gynecologic cancers through community-building and fundraising events.

SEGO-We Care Foundation has organized many successful fundraising events already, including one particularly successful event in Gwinnett County. On Saturday, May 19, SEGO We Care Foundation orchestrated a 5K walk through Lawrenceville, GA called "Walk for the Women We Love" in order to raise awareness of gynecologic cancers. The foundation is planning to use the grant to help fund its "Buddies" program aimed at connecting cancer survivors with newly-diagnosed patients. The grant will also go toward funding other events, such as the "Folding Flying Frisbee Festival for the Women We Love" in Lawrenceville this fall.

The foundation will also be highlighted for Cancer Awareness night on Sunday, July 22 at Coolray Field during the Gwinnett Braves' 5:05 PM game against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
