
Whelan named Minor League Pitcher of the Month

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The Detroit Tigers announced that Whitecaps pitcher Kevin Whelan was named minor league pitcher of the month for August. Whelan appeared in 12 games in August for the Whitecaps and earned nine saves while giving up just one run. The 'Caps closer struck out 20 of the 38 batters he faced last month and registered a 0.84 ERA.
The righthanded pitcher joined the Whitecaps August 1, 2005 after a short stint with the Oneonta Tigers in the New York-Penn League. Whelan was drafted in the fourth round of the June 2005 draft out of Texas A&M University.
The Whitecaps begin their playoff run tonight at Fifth Third Ballpark as they host the Fort Wayne Wizards in Game One of the Midwest League Playoffs at 7p.m.
