
Swing, Red Cross to aid Katrina victims

The Swing of the Quad Cities, in conjunction with the American Red Cross of the Quad City Area, announced on Tuesday a fundraising plan intended to support the victims of Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. Wednesday night's playoff opener will also feature a jersey raffle, with proceeds going to aid in the recovery effort.
"The people of the Gulf Coast states have suffered so much," said Swing President and General Manager Kevin Krause, "that we felt it was extremely important to try and do our part to help them as best we can. Wednesday night's game was the first opportunity we had to act, and the jersey raffle should be a great source of funds."
Quad Cities' postseason opener Wednesday night is scheduled for a first pitch at 7:00, as the Clinton LumberKings pay a visit to John O'Donnell Stadium in game one of a best-of-three series. Raffle tickets will be sold throughout the contest, and the winners will be announced after the game's completion.
"This is the largest response to a single natural disaster in the 125 years of the American Red Cross, and there's no doubt it will set many records in terms of the length and expanse of the operation," said Betsy Pratt, Executive Director of the American Red Cross of the Quad Cities Area. "We are so grateful to the Swing and the Quad Cities community for opening their hearts to the plight of their neighbors." In addition the jersey raffle, there will be buckets placed along the concourse level in order to collect donations throughout the game.
UP NEXT: The Swing begin their postseason run on Wednesday night, with Phillip Andersen (5-1, 2.96) on the mound against Clinton's Eric Hurley (12-6, 3.77). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00, and pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 on Progressive Talk AM 1270.
PROMOTION: The Swing will honor participants in the United Way's Day of Caring on Wednesday night, as well as raising funds for the victims of Hurricane Katrina with the American Red Cross. The playoff opener will also be a 97 Rock Beverage Night, with discounted drinks available from when the gates open at 6:00 until 8:30.
