PRINCE ALBERT S.K. - The Brandon Wheat Kings hold on to edge the Prince Albert Raiders 4-3 Tuesday night.
It was a first period to forget for the Wheat Kings who allowed 17 shots on goal putting rookie goaltender Ethan Eskit in a tough position. The lone goal was scored by veteran forward Reid Sorensen on a penalty shot to give the Raiders an early 1-0 lead.
The 2nd period was a completely different story. This time the Wheat Kings put up 16 shots and scored 4 goals in the span of 6:23. It started with Andrei Malyavin holding the puck at the point firing a shot which would deflect right off the rear end of Zakhar Polshakov to Dawson Pasternak allowing Pasternak to tie it up at one. Wheat Kings didn't have to wait long to get their first lead of the game. Only 16 seconds later Rylen Roersma would find Ben Thornton who placed a wrist shot from the left circle through the wickets of Chaika to make it 2-1. Then the Wheat Kings would continue to pressure with Anthony Wilson holding the puck inside the Raiders zone winning a puck battle to find Calder Anderson to make it 3-1 Wheat Kings. Then with under 5 minutes to go Nolan Ritchie would have a reverse wrap around goal to make it 4-1 Wheat Kings heading into the third period.
The Prince Albert Raiders controlled play in the third period and made it interesting. First, Ryder Ritchie would get the Raiders back on the board at the midway mark of the period to cut the lead in half. Then with 22 seconds remaining and the net empty, Sloan Stanick would fire a shot through Ethan Eskit to cut the Wheat Kings lead to 4-3. The Wheat Kings would survive the final 22 seconds and take home a big regulation victory.
