NEWS & NOTES:

Last Game: The Brandon Wheat Kings suffered an 8-3 loss at the hands of the Winnipeg ICE last Saturday. It was a game where it was only 2-1 ICE with under 14 minutes remaining in the 2nd period, then the ICE would score 5 goals in the span of 10 minutes to take a 7-1 lead. It would be the most goals the Wheat Kings allowed in a single period all year. The ICE would eventually win the game 8-3. Conor Geekie would finish the game with a hatrick, Owen Pederson and Connor McClennon would each record 3 point nights.

March 7th VS Prince Albert Raiders : The Wheat Kings and Prince Albert Raiders meet for the final time in PA this season. Last meeting in Art Hauser was a dominant performance from the Raiders who won 6-2. The most recent matchup between the Wheat Kings and the Raiders was Family Day when the Raiders stormed back to defeat the Wheat Kings in overtime. It was a game where the Wheat Kings had a 3-2 lead after two but Evan Herman was able to tie it up at three and Sloan Stanick scored a between the legs goal in OT to win the game. Nolan Ritchie was the top performer of the game with 1 goal and 1 assist earning 2nd star. The last win the Wheat Kings had over the Raiders was December 7th 2022.

Canada West Champs: Wheat Kings Alumni Zach Wytinck, Connor Gutenberg & Jaeger White will play in the Canadian University Cup after University of Calgary defeated University of Alberta 2-1 Sunday. Former Prince George Cougars captain Josh Maser broke a 1-1 tie with 3:16 remaining in the third period, while former Lethbridge Hurricanes and Moose Jaw Warriors netminder Carl Tetachuk made 18 saves as the University of Calgary claimed its first Canada West Men's Hockey title in 27 years Sunday. Both the University of Calgary and University of Alberta advance to the 2023 University Cup, slated for March 16-19 in Charlottetown, P.E.I.

Vinny's Vibin: Vincent Iorio suited up in his first NHL Regular season game with the Washington Capitals Saturday night and set up Alexander Ovechkin's 815th career goal. Iorio spent his entire Western League career with the Wheat Kings from 2018 to 2022 and was selected by the Capitals 55th overall in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.

Who's Hot: Brett Hyland currently has 19 goals scored in his last 21 games. Forward Nate Danielson has been stellar as of late scoring 16 points in his last 11 games. Danielson is also on a 11 game point streak.. Nolan Ritchie has 48 points in his last 38 games.
