ICE Tops Medicine Hat, 3-1

The Winnipeg ICE are the first team in the Western Hockey League to reach 50 wins this season following a 3-1 decision over the Medicine Hat Tigers Tuesday night.

With a 50-9-1 record through 60 games, the ICE lead the WHL with 101 points. They are the first team to have back to back 50 win seasons since the Kelowna Rockets of 2013-14 and 2014-15.

Zach Benson's 36th, Matthew Savoie's 34th and Conor Geekie's 33rd were the ICE goals. The Savoie marker proved to be the game winner while shorthanded in the second period.

Goaltender Daniel Hauser was named the first star making 27 saves. With 74 career victories, Hauser moved into a tie with Mackenzie Skapski for fourth place in all time wins by an ICE goaltender.

The lone Tiger goal came off the stick of Shane Smith. Evan May suffered the loss in net.

Medicine Hat out shot Winnipeg 28-27. Savoie led all players in the game with six shots.

The ICE continue their three game homestand Friday night, 7:00 at the ICE Cave inside Wayne Fleming Arena against the Edmonton Oil Kings (6:30 on CFRW 1290 AM / 7:00 on WHL Live via CHL TV).
