March 7, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Victoria Royals News Release
Victoria, B.C. - Victoria Royals 2022 third overall draft pick Cole Reschny has been named the Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey League Rookie of the Year and a First-Team All-Star for the 2022-2023 season.
The Macklin, SK product was dominant in his first full season at the U18 level, ranking second in the league with 65 points on 23 goals and 42 assists and first overall with 1.9 points per game this season for the Saskatoon Blazers AAA.
The 15-year-old also recently competed at the 2023 Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island, where he led Team Saskatchewan to a second place finish, while recording six points on five goals and one assist over six games at the tournament.
Reschny made his WHL debut with Victoria back on Oct. 26, 2022 against the Red Deer Rebels and scored his first goal less than a month later against the Prince George Cougars on Nov. 19.
"We're very proud of Cole and happy for him and his family," said Royals General Manager and Head Coach Dan Price. "These are great honours and well-deserved recognitions. For all of his offensive production, it's important to note that he's also extremely impactful and responsible on the defensive side of the puck and, most importantly, he's an outstanding person and teammate. There's no doubt that all of these factors have contributed to his accomplishments so far this season."
He and his Blazers teammates are currently competing for a league title in the 2023 SMAAAHL playoffs, where they currently hold a 2-0 series lead in their first-round matchup against the Notre Dame Hounds.
Reschny has brought his scoring touch to the postseason, recording four total points on two goals and two assists through his first pair of playoff games.
He is eligible to return to the Royals lineup following the conclusion of his club team's season.
