St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN - The St. Paul Saints blood started pumping, in the batters box, the bats were jumping. They launched balls all over the ballpark and on Saturday night the tide turned as it all rolled their way. In the end the Saints worked to a 9-5 victory over the Omaha Storm Chasers at CHS Field in front of 7,042.

The Saints flipped the script from the previous three games and jumped on top in the first inning. With one out, Byron Buxton reached on a throwing error by second baseman Gabriel Cancel. With two outs, Tomás Telis ripped a single into center. JT Riddle followed with a double off the wall in right that plated both runners to put the Saints up 2-0.

In the third the Saints added to their lead when Luis Arraez led off with a single to right. With one out, Brent Rooker knocked home Arraez with a double down the third base line putting the Saints up 3-0.

Andrew Albers, making his first start since he was put on the temporary inactive list as he went to pitch for Team Canada in the Olympic Qualifier, was sharp through the first three. In the fourth, Emmanuel Rivera got him with a solo homer to right, his eighth of the season, to make it 3-1.

The Saints made it 5-1 in the fifth courtesy of Telis. With one out Buxton walked and, with two outs, Telis hit a two-run homer to right, his fourth of the season. He finished the night 3-5 with a home run, two RBI, and two runs scored.

The Storm Chasers, however, would mount a comeback in the sixth as the first three hitters singled off Albers with the last one from Rivera scoring a run to make it 5-2. Albers faced one more hitter, a line out by Ryan O'Hearn, before departing. Ian Hamilton came on in relief and gave up an RBI single to Ryan McBroom and a sacrifice fly to Bubba Starling cutting the lead to 5-4. Albers went 5.2 innings allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out five.

The Saints answered back in the bottom of the inning as Jimmy Kerrigan got things started with a one out single to left and advanced to second on a fielding error by the left fielder Edward Olivares. Drew Maggi followed with a walk and Keon Broxton singled to load the bases. With Arraez at the plate, a wild pitch scored Kerrigan to make it 6-4. An RBI fielder's choice by Arraez made it 7-4 and Buxton followed with a two-run double off the left field wall making it 9-4. Arraez finished the night 1-4 with an RBI and two runs scored while Buxton went 1-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored.

The Saints bullpen was strong allowing just one run over the final 3.2 innings and striking out five. The lone run came in the ninth on an RBI infield single by Olivares.

The same two teams meet in the finale of the six-game series on Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. The Saints send LHP Charlie Barnes (2-0, 2.20) to the mound and the Storm Chasers are TBA. The game can be seen on 45TV and heard on KFAN, 100.3 FM.
