Owen Sound Attack News Release
The Owen Sound Attack has reeled off three straight victories and will look to extend their winning streak to four games when Rogers TV presents the Plymouth Whalers vs. the Owen Sound Attack at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre. The Attack secured 3-1 and 5-0 victories over the Erie Otters last weekend, but their focus will now shift to a very tough sequence of games that will see them square off against Plymouth, London (2) and Kitchener, who are all looking down at the Attack in the Western Conference standings.
Attack Captain Michael Halmo extended his point scoring streak to 14 games over the weekend against the Otters. Originally Halmo was not granted an assist in Kitchener on December 30th, however; league review proved that Halmo indeed earned an assist, which has allowed his impressive point streak to continue. Forwards Artur Gavrus (upper body) and Jarrod Maidens (undisclosed) are inching their way closer to a return, although a target date has not been set.
Whale Watching - In their first and only meeting of the season, the Attack skated away with a hard fought victory, however; since then, Plymouth has risen to 2nd Place in the Western Conference, trailing the London Knights by 2 points. The Whalers have nine players who have registered double digits in goals so far this year, including five players who have 15 or more goals. Defenseman and former Attack 1st Round Pick Curtis Crombeen will make a return to the Bayshore, along with Ripley native Garrett Meurs.
Look Out For - There is a long list of culprits you could look at as potential threats on the front end, however; we're going to go with the Captain, Beau Schmitz. Schmitz is the straw that stirs the Whaler punch, logging a TONNE of minutes on the back end during powerplays, penalty kills and even strength. The Overage defenseman also leads Whaler defensemen in points and leads the entire team with a +27 rating.
Last 10 - Owen Sound: 5-4-0-1 (3rd in MidWest) Plymouth: 8-2 (1st in West Division)
Tickets for tonight's tilt are available at the Attack Box Office in the front lobby of the Bayshore Community Centre, online at www.attackhockey.com or over the phone by calling (519) 371-7452.
