Windsor Spitfires News Release

(Windsor) The Windsor Spitfires announced today that goalie Jaroslav Pavelka has been named the Tecumseh & South Walkerville Vision Centres Player of the Week for the week ending January 16th. Pavelka was brilliant in net for the Spitfires this week and picked up his first career OHL shutout in a 5-0 win over the Guelph Storm Friday night. In this game Pavelka stopped 22 shots which included a handful of spectacular saves off Zack Mitchell of the Storm. Pavelka also made another 49 stops in a losing effort on the road Monday in a matinée matchup against Plymouth. With his win Friday Jaroslav now has 6 wins on the year and 5 in a Spitfires uniform.

The 18-year-old Czech Republic native has settled into his role with the Spitfires nicely since being acquired from Niagara earlier on this season. His playing time along with his hard work ethic has contributed to a significant increase in production and level of play. Jaroslav has also made strides off the ice by adapting more to the Canadian culture and the English language. Overall, his level of professionalism and talent makes him an intriguing player for the Spitfires today and in the future.
