Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa-Veteran Waterloo Black Hawks defenseman Patrick Wey has committed to play Division I hockey for Boston College, beginning in the fall of 2009.

"Any school would want someone like Patrick, and there were many that did," said Black Hawks Head Coach P.K. O'Handley. "He is an exceptional student, and he took a long time choosing what he felt would be the right college, not just the right hockey program. I expect Patrick to eventually play professional hockey, and Boston College is going to be a great place to help him make that step and help him achieve all his other goals in life."

Wey just completed his second regular season in Waterloo. The 18-year-old from Pittsburgh scored seven goals and assisted on 27 more this year. He weighed in as the USHL's seventh-leading scorer among defensemen, and was tied for third among the Black Hawks in plus-minus at +22. Wey was named USHL Defensive Player of the Week on January 26th. For his regular season career as a Black Hawk, the 6-2, 200-pound defenseman appeared in 93 games with eight goals and 32 assists. In January, Wey was 166th on the NHL Central Scouting midterm rankings for North American skaters eligible for the June draft.

Former Black Hawk defenseman Tim Filangieri recently wrapped up his NCAA career at Boston College. As a member of the Eagles, Filangieri played in three NCAA National Championship games, winning the title in 2008.
