Westchester Knicks Run out of Gas in Grand Rapids
March 16, 2016 - NBA G League (G League)
Westchester Knicks News Release
GRAND RAPIDS - The Westchester Knicks (24-19), the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, lost the first of a two-game road series to the Grand Rapids Drive (19-24) with a final score of 123-105.
The teams traded seven leads before Grand Rapids took control in the latter half of the first. Turnovers plagued Westchester early, the Knicks giving up 11 points in six of them. Despite 11 first-quarter points from guard Jimmer Fredette, the visitors found themselves down by eight after the first 12 minutes.
The Drive racked up a 17-point lead in the second kicked off by an 8-2 run. Both teams struggling from the three in the first half, Grand Rapids found success in second chance points with 14. The home team held a 10-point lead heading into the second, the score 59-49.
Westchester stayed just a step behind Grand Rapids in the third, hitting 10-of-22 shots to the Drive's 11-of-22. The home team's first half control, on top of a 14-point quarter from Grand Rapids guard Kelsey Barlow, prohibited the Knicks from getting ahead as the Drive headed into the final quarter with a 13-point lead.
Running out of steam in the fourth, Westchester found themselves on the wrong side of a 22-point deficit, which at that point was the number of points given up in turnovers. Unable to muster up any kind of comeback, the Knicks fell 123-105 to the Drive.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo paced the Knicks with 22 points, adding four rebounds, a block, and a steal. Ra'Shad James came off the bench to supply 21 points with four rebounds, while Jimmer Fredette finished with 20 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
Devin Ebanks and Kelsey Barlow shared a game-high 25 points. Lorenzo Brown finished with a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds, while all five starters finished in double digits.
The Westchester Knicks continue their road travels on Friday, March 18 for a 7:00 p.m. match-up against the Erie BayHawks, the Orlando Magic's affiliate. The game will be broadcast live on MSG Network and on the NBA Development League's YouTube channel.
