Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
BLOOMINGTON, Illinois - The Brahmas defeated the Bloomington Blaze on the road Friday night by the score of 1-0 behind netminder Kristofer Westblom's league-leading fourth shutout of the season.
After both teams failed to tally a score in the opening frame, the Brahmas scored the only goal of the game at 4:13 of the second period as they converted on their third power play of the night. Brendon Hodge received a feed from Austin Mayer and buried a slap shot from the right face-off circle to give Fort Worth a 1-0 lead. Phil Fox also assisted on the goal.
For Hodge, the score was his 10th of the 2012-13 campaign. The veteran has now tallied double-digit goals in eight of his 10 professional seasons.
Westblom stopped all 24 shots he faced between the posts for Fort Worth, earning his 20th victory and CHL-best fourth shutout of the season. The Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan native now ranks second in the league in wins and in goals against average at 2.30.
Ross McKinnon made 30 saves on 31 shots faced in net for Bloomington.
The Brahmas were 1-for-5 on the power play while holding the Blaze scoreless on two opportunities of their own with the man advantage.
With the win, the Brahmas remain five points behind the Allen Americans for first place and extend their lead over the third-place Wichita Thunder to three points.
Fort Worth finishes its current four-game road trip Sunday, March 3 in Moline, Illinois to face off against the Quad City Mallards at 4:05pm. The Brahmas are 3-0-0 versus the Mallards this season.
The team is back in action at the NYTEX Sports Centre Wednesday, March 6 when they face off against the Wichita Thunder at 7:30pm on Beer League Night. The Brahmas will wear specialty jerseys, which will be autographed and auctioned off immediately following the game Saturday, March 9.
