Mallards' Lang Named CHL Oakley Third Star for February

MOLINE, Ill. (March 1, 2013) - Quad City Mallards forward Mickey Lang has been named Oakley Central Hockey League Third Star for the month of February, the Mallards announced today in conjunction with the CHL.

Lang, 26, scored six goals and totaled 15 points in a dozen games in February.

Lang leads the league in shorthanded goals (5), is tied for the league lead in game winning goals (6), ranks second in goals (29), ranks seventh in points (64), is tied for fifth in power play goals (9) and is tied for tenth in assists (35).

The third star nod is just the latest in a string of honors that have come Lang's way. The Reno, Nevada, native was named CHL Player of the Month for January and league Player of the Week for the period ending January 20. Lang in January also made his American Hockey League debut for the Rockford IceHogs.

Players are awarded five points each time they are named first star of a game, three points for second star recognition and one point for being tabbed third star. Lang in February was named first star twice and second star three times for a total of 19 points. Lang leads the season-long three stars race with 48 points.

Lang returned to the Mallards this year after scoring 19 goals and totaling 40 points in 61 games as a rookie last season. He capped off his first pro campaign by earning CHL Rookie of the Month and CHL Oakley First Star honors for March.

Lang enjoyed four standout seasons at Division III Manhattanville College before turning pro. He was named to the All-ECAC West Conference second team in each of his final two seasons as a Valiant. Lang, who scored 16 times and produced 27 points in 24 games as a senior in 2010-11, finished his collegiate career ranked second in school history in goals (47). In all, he totaled 93 points in 88 games for Manhattanville.

After visiting the Missouri Mavericks tonight, the Mallards return to action at home Sunday at 4:05 p.m. against the Fort Worth Brahmas. Sunday is Youth Sports Day presented by Quad Cities YMCA. Sunday is also a Mallards Family Skate Day presented by Genesis Health Systems- fans can bring their skates and join the Mallards on the ice after the game. Following the game, fans will also have the chance to spend time with the Mallards themselves, who will join fans at Rascals- located at 1414 15th Street in Moline- for a special post-game event.
