Brahmas Nip Blaze in Defensive Affair

BLOOMINGTON - The Bloomington Blaze, fueled by Mid-Illini Credit Union, only surrendered a second-period power play goal but could not muster one of their own in a 1-0 loss to the Fort Worth Brahmas on Saturday night at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

After a scoreless first period, the Brahmas used their second power play of the middle chapter to open the scoring with 15:47 left on a drive from the right circle by Brendon Hodge assisted by Austin Mayer and Phil Fox.

Ross MacKinnon took the loss with 30 saves while Kristofer Westblom earned the shutout with 24 stops. The Blaze were 0-for-2 on the power play while the Brahmas were 1-of-5.

The Blaze travel to Wichita for a Saturday night affair with the third-place Thunder. Face-off is at 7:05 p.m. with pre-game on WJBC.com and CHL-TV at 6:45 from INTRUST Bank Arena. Junior Blaze roll: The Junior Blaze rolled to a 13-3 win over the Great Lakes Lightning on Friday in Midwest Junior Hockey League action at U.S. Cellular Coliseum. Joe Clemente recorded a five-point game with four goals and an assist while Matt Donley and Ty Gehrken registered two goals each. Will Rohleder earned the win in goal with 13 saves as the Junior Blaze outshot the Lightning 66-16. The teams meet again at 3 p.m. Saturday at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
