Dell Shuts Down Thunder with 4-0 Win

March 1, 2013 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Wichita Thunder News Release

Allen, TX - Wichita (30-17-7) was on the wrong end of a 4-0 loss at the hands of the Allen Americans (33-13-9), who got a 27-save performance from Aaron Dell for his third shutout of the season on Friday night. Wichita falls to 3-3-1 against Allen this season and will not see the Americans until the final week of the year.

Allen has had a knack of jumping out to quick leads against Wichita at the Allen Event Center and took advantage of a few good bounces in the first. After a Thunder penalty expired, Wichita couldn't get the puck out of its own zone. Trevor Hendrikx unloaded a shot that went just wide of the left post, ricocheted off the end wall back to the crease area where Jarret Lukin was able to tip it past Grant Rollheiser and gave Allen a 1-0 lead. The Americans then added to the lead at 13:09 with a Brian McMillian goal that redirected off of Nathan Lutz's skate and past Rollheiser to up the lead to 2-0.

The Americans added to the lead in the second period when Anthony Maiani put a shot from the high slot past Rollheiser, who was tangled up with Jamie Schaafsma in the crease area, and the goal was allowed to make it 3-0.

Maiani scored his second of the game on the power play with three minutes remaining to even further the damage and the Americans won 4-0. Allen improves to 2-0-0 against Wichita when wearing special uniforms as they donned a jersey that looked like Ronald McDonald.

Dell collected his third shutout of the season with the win and handed Wichita its third goose egg of the year. Rollheiser took his second regulation loss of the season, stopping 23 of 27 shots. Wichita is 0-1-2 in its last three games with two home games looming this weekend.

Wichita went 0-for-4 on the power play while Allen was 1-for-6.
