
West Virginia Wins 7-2 Behind Tarpley

West Virginia starter Stephen Tarpley held Lexington to one run in the first six innings, and Jordan Luplow drove in three runs as the Power won 7-2 Saturday night in Charleston.
The Legends scored a run in the first inning when Corey Toups singled, stole second and came home on a double by Wander Franco, but West Virginia evened the score with a run in the bottom of the first. Cole Tucker led off with a walk, stole second, was sacrificed to third by Pablo Reyes and scored on a ground out by Luplow.
The Power took the lead for good with two runs in the second inning, one coming home on a sacrifice fly by Taylor Gushue and the other on Trace Tam Sing's double.
West Virginia added two runs in the fourth on a leadoff single by Jerrick Suiter, a triple by Chase Simpson and a sacrifice fly by Gushue.
Luplow's two-run homer in the seventh gave West Virginia a 7-1 lead.
The Legends scored their final run in the eighth on a single by Toups and a double by Chad Johnson.
Tarpley (7-2) got the win. He allowed five hits, walked one batter and struck out eight.
Legends starter Corey Ray (2-5), who worked the first five innings, was the losing pitcher.
Toups had three hits in four at bats for Lexington, and is six for nine in the series. He has 20 hits in his last 45 at bats.
The Power have won the first two games of the series, which continues Sunday. Game time is 2:05 p.m.
