Greenville, SC - Extra innings were needed to decide the winner of Saturday night's contest between the Southern Division rival Asheville Tourists and Greenville Drive, and the Tourists came out ahead by a 6-4 margin at Fluor Field in ten innings.
In the 10th inning, Drew Weeks drew a leadoff walk against Ryan Harris (0-3), and after a Roberto Ramos single to left, a Drive (12-11, 50-43) error in left field allowed Weeks to score the go-ahead run. A second Drive error in the inning plated another run and securing the game for the Tourists.
Josh Michalec (3-2) earned the win for Asheville after throwing the final two innings despite blowing the save in the ninth when Mike Meyers hit a game-tying single to score Michael Chavis, who also singled.
Ramos started the scoring for the Tourists in the first inning with his RBI single into left.
Greenville's first run came courtesy of Rafael Devers, who blasted his eighth homer of the season into center field in the bottom of the third against Tourists starter Ryan Castellani.
Ramos struck again for Asheville in the visiting half of the sixth inning as he doubled into center allowing one run to cross the plate, giving the Tourists the go-ahead run. Ramos crossed the plate on a single from Jairo Rosario.
Dom Nunez added to Asheville's tally in the eighth with a solo shot to right.
Greenville was able to score twice in the bottom of the eighth. A wild pitch from Jerry Vasto plated a run, and Francisco Tellez's groundout to second base allowed J.T. Watkins to cross the plate.
Among the Drive players with multi-hit games were Devers, Guerra and Watkins, who doubled twice.
Ramos was the sparkplug for the Tourists, going 3-4 with three runs and two RBI.
In his first appearance with the Drive since being added to the roster, Ben Taylor worked four innings and allowed just one run.
The teams will continue the series on Sunday afternoon at Fluor Field, with first pitch set for 4:05 PM. Drive LH Jalen Beeks (8-4, 4.36) takes the ball against Tourists RH Grahamm Wiest (3-1, 2.21).
