Gnats Strike Early to Bite R'Dogs 6-3 Saturday

Savannah, GA - The Savannah Sand Gnats scored four times in the first inning to take early control of Saturday night's game on their way to a 6-3 win over the Charleston RiverDogs. Savannah third baseman Eudor Garcia was three-for-four with two RBI to lead the Savannah offense. 

The Gnats (8-14/47-45) strung together five straight hits with two outs in the first to plate four runs. First baseman Michael Katz doubled to right field to bring home the first run. That was followed by a single from Garcia, an RBI triple by DH John Mora and an RBI single by catcher Tomas Nido.

Savannah added another run in the third when Garcia doubled home Katz. The Gnats plated their sixth and final run in the fourth on an RBI single by RF Wuilmer Becerra. All six runs were charged to Charleston starter Justin Kamplain who is 0-4 with an 8.20 ERA against the Gnats in four starts in 2015.

Savannah starter Ricky Knapp was solid, yielding three runs, two earned in his six innings to earn his fourth win of the year.

Knapp was followed by relievers Tim Peterson and Cameron Griffin who earned a hold and a save respectively after combining for three shutout innings of relief.

The Savannah Sand Gnats and Charleston RiverDogs will continue their four-game series tomorrow at 2:05 PM. It will be game three of the Subway Series in the South presented by Amtrak. The Gnats will send RHP Casey Delgado (3-3, 4.22) to the hill, while Charleston will start RHP Matt Wotherspoon (2-1, 3.89). Sunday is another Bark in the Park presented by TailsSpin and Kids Run the Bases after the game presented by Papa Murphy's Pizza.
