West Virginia Takes 7-3 Win over Legends

The West Virginia Power built an early 5-0 lead and went on to a 7-3 win over the Lexington Legends in front of 4,289 fans Tuesday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

The Power opened the scoring in the second on a double by Carlos Munoz, a ground out and a base hit by Tyler Filliben. They added a run in the third. Christian Kelley led off with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch, to third after a fly ball to center field by Alfredo Reyes, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Tito Polo.

In the fourth, the Power loaded the bases with one out. Ryan Nagle struck out, but reached first on a wild pitch. Logan Hill was hit by a pitch and Filliben walked. Kelley also walked, forcing in a run, and Reyes followed with a two-run single, giving West Virginia a 5-0 lead.

The Legends came back with two runs in the fifth. D.J. Burt was hit by a pitch, stole second base and continued to third on a throwing error by Kelley, the catcher. He scored on a wild pitch. Samir Duenez then tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly to short right field by Ben Johnson.

Lexington's Xavier Fernandez homered in the sixth to cut the lead to 5-3, but the Power added single runs in the seventh and eighth to close out the scoring.

West Virginia starter Gage Hinsz (1-1) worked the first six innings and got the win. He allowed three runs on eight hits. Jess Amedee pitched the seventh and eighth, and Julio Eusebio worked a perfect ninth inning.

Legends starter Gerson Garabito (0-4) took the loss. He pitched the first three and one-third innings.

The Power have won the first two games of the series, which concludes Wednesday. Game time is 12:35 p.m.
