Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

LEADING OFF: The West Virginia Power will begin their final homestand of April on Thursday, April 19, at Appalachian Power Park against the Asheville Tourists. The Power will clash with the Tourists for four games before facing the Rome Braves in a four-game series.

ABOUT THE TOURISTS: The Tourists are 3-9 in 2018, including a paltry 1-6 on the road. Asheville has been stymied by a league-worst 5.78 ERA, but despite their poor pitching, the Tourists have the fifth-best batting average in the South Atlantic League at .258. Asheville has been paced by 2017 20th-round draft pick, Casey Golden, who is riding a seven-game hitting streak and averaging .357 through 12 games, good for 10th-best in the league amongst those who have played at least 10 games. Asheville has a race at first base between Chad Spanberger and Sean Bouchard, who are hitting .327 and .297, respectively. Spanberger, a sixth round draft pick out of Arkansas, has knocked in 10 runs this year already.

ABOUT THE BRAVES: The Braves are 7-5 this season, including a 3-2 pace on the road. Rome has struggled pushing runs across the plate in 2018, as they have the fouth-lowest total in the South Atlantic League at 47. Riley Delgado and Jean Carlos Encarnacion have been bright spots in the order, both hitting well above a .300 clip this season. Encarnacion is coming off of a seven-game hitting streak, ending on April 16 with his batting average at .378. Jasseel De La Cruz has been one of the top relievers in the SAL this year, tossing 14 innings in three relief appearances while compiling a 0.64 ERA to go along with 16 punchouts.
