Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ -Â Aaron Knapp's infield RBI single in the 10th inning brought home BJ Lopez with the winning run as Greensboro topped the BlueClaws 5-4 in 10 innings. The Hoppers win came one night after the BlueClaws picked up a 5-4, 10-inning win over Greensboro.
The Grasshoppers(7-5) took two of three in the series from Lakewood (6-7) as the BlueClaws finished 3-3 on their first homestand of the year.
The BlueClaws had the bases loaded and one out in the 10th - both teams begin all extra innings with a runner at second base - but Manny Rodriguez got Quincy Nieporte to fly to left and Jake Scheinerto ground to second base to end the game.
Colton Hock threw four scoreless innings (2-1) to earn the win.
Jhailyn Ortiz opened the scoring in the first inning with a two-run home run over the left field wall. For Ortiz, it was his first home run as a BlueClaw and his 17th professional home run after he hit two each of the last two seasons.
After JC Millian hit a solo shot in the second off Ramon Rosso, Dalton Guthrie doubled in a run in the second to put the BlueClaws up 3-1.
The BlueClaws added a run in the fifth inning on a fielder's choice groundout from Ortiz.
Rosso came out after allowing one run over six innings with seven strikeouts but did not factor in the decision.
The Grasshoppers came back to tie the game in the 8th inning without an RBI. They scored on a passed ball, wild pitch, and hit batsman, with all three runs charged to reliever Julian Garcia.
Ortiz had three hits in the loss for the BlueClaws while Dalton Guthrie, Rodolfo Duran, and Yahir Gurrola had two hits apiece.
The BlueClaws head to Delmarva to open a four-game series with the Shorebirds on Thursday night. LHP Will Stewart (2-0) starts for the BlueClaws opposite LHP Cameron Bishop (1-1).
