Carolina Mudcats News Release

ZEBULON, NC-The West Tenn Diamond Jaxx got seven outstanding innings from starter Ryan Feierabend en route to a 4-2 win over the Carolina Mudcats on Saturday night at Five County Stadium to even the series at two games apiece.

West Tenn (25-23) struck first in the top of the first as Carlos Peguero walked and the next batter, Johan Limonta tripled high off the left field wall to drive home Peguero and give the Diamond Jaxx a 1-0 lead.

Carolina (24-26) came right back in the bottom of the frame, with one out Jake Kahaulelio belted a pitch over the left field wall for his sixth home run of the season and after one, the game was tied at one.

The Mudcats took a short lived lead in the bottom of the second as Sean Danielson doubled to begin the frame and after a Dave Sappelt single, Carolina had runners at the corners with no outs, and as Feierabend tried to pick Sappelt off at first, he was called for a balk allowing Danielson to score and give the Mudcats a 2-1 lead.

That lead was short lived as West Tenn came right back with a pair of runs in the top of the third as Alex Liddi led off the inning with a double and was later driven home when Scott Savastano doubled to left to tie the game at two. Dustin Ackley then collected his second RBI of the series with a single to left and give the Diamond Jaxx a 3-2 lead.

Peguero added an insurance for West Tenn in the fifth when he crushed a lead off solo home run beginning the fifth inning to give the Diamond Jaxx a 4-2 lead.

Feierabend and reliever Anthony Varvaro would shut down the Mudcat offense and keep West Tenn ahead by two as Varvaro collected his sixth save of the season.

The series concludes tomorrow at 2:00 when the Mudcats send Matt Fairel to the mound and West Tenn will counter with Steve Bray.
