Jackson Generals News Release
ZEBULON, NC. (May 29, 2010) - The Diamond Jaxx (25-23) pounded out 10 hits Saturday and beat the Carolina Mudcats (23-26) to even the series, 4-2. In a series of missed opportunities the Jaxx will play for their sixth series victory in 10 chances on Sunday afternoon. Carlos Peguero recorded his second straight multi-hit game (18 on the season) going 2-for-4 with his 13th homer and two runs scored. Peguero leads the team in homers and a .311 batting average.
Peguero led the effort, but Alex Liddi had a triple and a double, finishing 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Leury Bonilla registered his first three-hit game of the season, going 3-for-4 at the plate. Bonilla started in centerfield for West Tenn which means he has played eight of the nine positions on the field so far this season. For the second straight day, no Mudcats had multi-hit nights.
Ryan Feierabend (1-0) was fantastic in his first, and more than likely only start for the Diamond Jaxx. Feirabend rehabbing from Tommy John surgery a year ago has made 26 major league appearances for the Mariners over the 2006-08 seasons. On Saturday he fired seven innings and allowed just two runs on five hits. He struck out three and walked none. Anthony Varvaro notched his sixth save of the year by dealing two scoreless innings to end the game. Tom Cochran (2-2) took the loss for the Mudcats.
Alex Liddi narrowly missed his fifth homerun of the year in the top of the first inning, but tripled home Carlos Peguero to put the Jaxx on top of the Mudcats 1-0.
The Mudcats tied the game at 1-1 as Jake Kahaulelio blasted a solo homerun. The homer was his sixth of the year, and after one inning the Jaxx and Mudcats were tied at one.
Carolina took their first and only lead of the game in the bottom of the second on a balk by Jaxx pitcher Ryan Feierabend. Sean Danielson came in to score to make it 2-1 Carolina.
The Jaxx re-took the lead by scoring two runs in the top of the third. Scott Savastano doubled home Alex Liddi to tie the game and Dustin Ackley singled home Savastano to put the Jaxx back on top 3-2.
Carlos Peguero extended the D-Jaxx lead to 4-2 on an estimated 475 foot homerun to right. Peguero has 13 homers on the year.
Sunday is the rubber game and finale of the five game series in Carolina at Five County Stadium, with first pitch at 1:00 CDT. RHP Steve Bray (1-3, 2.60) starts for the Diamond Jaxx and LHP Matt Fairel (0-0, 0.00) makes his Double-A debut for Carolina.
The Diamond Jaxx will return to Pringles Park on Saturday, June 5th to begin a five game series against the Mississippi Braves. Dale Murphy will be making an appearance at Pringles Park on June 5th as well as a post game fireworks extravaganza. 4,000 tickets have already been sold for this game. Fans can buy tickets by going online to diamondjaxx.com or calling 731-988-5299.
