Wendorf Beats Former Team as Freedom Knocks off Boomers

Florence Y'alls News Release
(Schaumburg, IL) - The Florence Freedom (39-43), presented by Titan Mechanical Solutions, scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back in a 7-3 win over the Schaumburg Boomers (34-48) Friday night.
The win marks the Freedom's third consecutive victory and with Rockford's loss to Southern Illinois the Freedom move to within five games in the Wild Card race.
Zach Wendorf (2-1) went five and two thirds innings, giving up three runs on five hits to pick up the win. He got a measure of payback as the Boomers released him earlier this year after nine appearances even though he posted a 1.33 ERA with Schaumburg.
Sam Eberle's RBI single off Schaumburg starter Eddie Cody (8-4) put Florence up 1-0 in the first. Later in the inning Collins Cuthrell clobbered a three-run home run to make it 4-0.
The Freedom tallied two more in the fourth as Daniel Fraga doubled home a run and Zac Mitchell singled home Fraga to extend the lead to 6-0.
An Isaac Wenrich solo home run in the fifth made the score 7-0. It's the second straight game where Wenrich has gone yard.
Schaumburg managed to push across a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth. But the Freedom bullpen shut them down after that.
Pete Levitt tossed an inning and a third of shutout ball. Ethan Gibbons did his thing in the eighth and Ed Kohout finished off Schaumburg in the ninth.
The Freedom will look to win their fourth straight game and their third consecutive series as they send RHP Coleman Stephens (3-4, 4.45 ERA) to the mound Saturday night. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. eastern time and all the action can be heard at mixlr.com/florencefreedom/.
