Last time out...
The Freedom swept the Joliet Slammers in a doubleheader on Thursday, winning game one by a score of 5-2 and winning game two by a score of 9-2. Florence never trailed in the twin bill and Pete Levitt picked up a pair of wins out of the bullpen. In game one the Freedom jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with runs in the first, third and fourth innings. Joliet cut the Freedom lead to 3-2 in the fifth but Collins Cuthrell hit a two-run homer in the sixth for some much-needed insurance. Ed Kohout picked up his 15th save of the season. In game two the Freedom and Slammers were tied at two until the third when Austin Newell's RBI grounder put Florence ahead for good. They tallied three runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by an Isaac Wenrich two-run home run. The Freedom tallied three more runs in the seventh on a RBI single from Sam Eberle and a Cuthrell two-RBI single. Seth Harvey pitched three shutout innings out of the bullpen for the save.
For Starters...
Zach Wendorf makes his 8th appearance of the season for the Freedom tonight and his third start. His most recent outing was out of the bullpen on August 19th as he threw an inning of shutout ball against the Joliet Slammers. His most recent start was on August 14 as he beat the Gateway Grizzlies for his first professional victory, going six innings, giving up two runs on two hits in a 9-2 win. Tonight he faces his former team, the Schaumburg Boomers. Wendorf faced Schaumburg out of the bullpen on July 11 and tossed two innings of shutout ball. He put up a 1.33 ERA with the Boomers in nine appearances out of the bullpen to start the year before being released. Wendorf was signed by the Boomers out of the California Winter League in January of 2015. The 6'5" lefty from the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point finished his senior season with a 2-1 record and 4.98 ERA in 10 appearances out of the bullpen. The 23-year-old from Pine River, Wisconsin, struck out 27 in 34 innings for the Pointers in 2014, adding one save.
