Joliet Slammers News Release

Avon, OH The Joliet Slammers (34-48) fell behind early but used a 6-run 3rd inning to take control and defeat Lake Erie (34-47) 11-7 on Friday night.

Patrick Dyer got the start for Joliet, but did not make it out of the 1st inning. He was tagged for four runs on four hits with three walks in just 1/3 of an inning. David Kubiak came to the rescue out of the bullpen and went the next 6 2/3 innings, giving up no runs on just three hits with five strikeouts to earn the win. The Slammers went from that 4-0 deficit to a 6-4 lead thanks to the big 3rd inning off Crushers starter Trevor Longfellow. Kevin McNorton had a rare shaky outing for the Slammers and allowed 3 runs, 2 earned in just 1/3 of an inning. Navery Moore went the final 1 2/3 innings, allowing just one hit to earn his 16th save.

Offensively for Joliet, Mike Garza led the way with three hits, including a three-run triple. Jeremy Nowak contributed an RBI single and a sac fly. Carter Bell hit a solo homer and other RBI's came from Joe Staley and Marc Flores.

The Slammers return home on Tuesday, August 25th at 7:05pm to open a three-game series vs. Schaumburg. It will be the final 2-dollar Tuesday of the season, as all tickets are just two bucks! Slammers home action can be seen and heard at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/slammervision.
