Wenatchee Wild Announce Signing of 2008-Born Forward, Alberta Native Wedman

WENATCHEE, Wash. - The Wenatchee Wild, proud members of the Western Hockey League (WHL), are pleased to announce that 2008-born forward Grady Wedman has signed a Scholarship and Development Agreement with the organization. A native of Leduc, Alberta, Wedman played this season in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL)'s Northern Alberta Xtreme program.

"Grady is a young player who showed up to work each day with his NAX U17 team," said Wenatchee Wild director of scouting Leigh Mendelson. "His game has many layers to it, but is based on his work ethic, which he acquired from his hard-working family. When he's at his best, he's creating loose pucks, which lead to his offense. When he's ready to be an everyday WHL player, we anticipate him being in our core group and leading by example. We are very happy to have a player like Grady committed to the organization."

Wedman played 31 games for the Northern Alberta Xtreme Under-17 team this past year, notching nine goals and 16 assists, and added a goal and an assist in three playoff games for NAX. He was among his team's scoring leaders last season as well, ranking third for the Alberta Elite Hockey League's Leduc Oil Kings with 39 points. He comes to the organization after being chosen by the former Winnipeg ICE in the eighth round at 176th overall in last year's WHL Prospects Draft.

He briefly left the sport several years ago to explore his talents on the basketball court, but has continued to advance since returning to the ice, and is looking forward to pursuing the sport at the next level as he joins the Wild organization. He says he aims to make an impression on coaches, scouts and fans as a leader and someone who makes those around him better, but is looking forward to working with the coaching staff on improving his offensive abilities.

"I haven't let that slip, but that is one thing that I've tried to work on these past couple of years since getting back into hockey, is finding my groove, putting the puck in the net and getting into spots where I can get set up for success," said Wedman. "I'm looking forward to the journey and the grind every day, coming down to training camp, and being part of the organization now."
