Bjarnason Named to East Division Second All Star Team
March 26, 2024 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
A team that can rely on their number one goaltender has a chance to win on any given night, and few goaltenders in the WHL have been more reliable this season than Wheat Kings netminder Carson Bjarnason.
Bjarnason was named the goaltender for the East Division's second all star team today, the WHL announced. It is Bjarnason's first ever appearance on a divisional all star team.
"We are very proud of Carson for earning this honour," said Wheat Kings head coach and GM Marty Murray. "He's been a rock for us and has really developed into a leader both on and off the ice. Carson is a calming influence for us in net and gives us a chance to win every night.
Selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the second round of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, Bjarnason returned to the Wheat Kings and put up the best numbers of his career in every major category. He finished the regular season with a 3.01 GAA and a .907 save percentage, as well as a record of 24-17-4-1 with two shutouts.
Thanks to Bjarnason's help, the Wheat Kings go into the postseason riding a three-game winning streak. Although they may be the underdogs on paper against the Moose Jaw Warriors, Bjarnason could be their ace in the hole in this series.
"He's just got to be the goalie he is," said Murray. "He's been really steady. Since he's come back from injury, I think he's been excellent, he's dialed in. Hopefully he's ready for this big stage. He has the ability to steal some games."
Bjarnason and the Wheat Kings will open up their first round series against the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday, March 29 in Moose Jaw. Puck drop on game one will be 8:00 Central Time. The Wheat Kings and Warriors split the season series, with each team finishing 4-3-1.
