Molendyk, Sidorov, and Wong Named to East Division First All-Star Team
March 26, 2024 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release
Saskatoon, SK - Saskatoon Blades captain Trevor Wong, alternate captain Tanner Molendyk, and forward Egor Sidorov have been named to the WHL's East Division First All-Star Team. The league made the announcement Tuesday afternoon.
Wong recorded a career-high 101 points in 68 games with the Blue and Gold this season. The Vancouver, BC product became the first Blade since Frank Banham, Clarke Wilm, and Mark Deyell in the 1995-96 season to crack the 100-point plateau. The pending WHL graduate's 86 assists topped the league with 15 goals on the side.
On the receiving end of most of the passes was Anaheim Ducks draft pick Sidorov. The 6-foot sniper recorded 50 goals in 66 games, also the first Blade to do so since Banham and Deyell in 1995-96. The 19-year-old winger finished with a career-high 88 points, and led the league with 12 game-winning goals.
A lot of those plays started thanks to Nashville Predators defenceman Tanner Molendyk. The silky-skating defender recorded a career-high ten goals and 56 points in 50 games, finishing top five amongst WHL defencemen in +/- at +40. When the pride of McBride, BC wasn't busy breaking ankles in the offensive zone, he was shutting down opposing team's top lines with his defensive awareness and physicality.
All three men's contributions were vital in one of the organization's most successful seasons ever. The Bridge City Bunch won 50 games for the third time in franchise history, clinched their 11th East Division banner, secured first place in the Eastern Conference, and took home the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy for the top regular season team.
The 2024 WHL Playoffs presented by Nutrien begin Thursday, March 28th when all eyes are on SaskTel Centre for Game 1 of the Blades and Prince Albert Raiders series. Puck drop for the Highway 11 rivalry is 7:00pm, with Game 2 the following night at SaskTel Centre at 7:00pm.
