The Somerset Patriots defeated the Binghamton Rumble Ponies by a score of 7-4 on Tuesday night at TD Bank Ballpark.
The win marks the Patriots' seventh in their last nine games and improves them to 5-0 in series-opening games this season.
Now 21 games into the season, the Patriots have played in 15 games decided by three runs or less, improving to 8-7 in such games.
RHP Blas Castano (5.1 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 3 BB, 5 K) relieved starter Blane Abeyta and earned the win in his longest outing of the season.
Castano's effort marks his second straight win and the longest relief outing by any Patriot over the last two seasons.
SS Trey Sweeney (2-for-3, 2 R, 2B, BB) scored the first run of the night, after leading off the game with a double.
Sweeney amassed his team-leading fifth multi-hit game of the season.
DH Austin Wells (1-for-3, 2 RBI, R, 2B, BB) made his Double-A season debut, returning from the 7-day injured list and doubling home Somerset's final two runs of the game in the seventh inning.
1B T.J. Rumfield (1-for-3, RBI, R, HR, BB) hit his third home run of the season to give the Patriots their second lead of the game in the fourth inning.
Each of Rumfield's three home runs have come in Somerset's last three series-opening games.
RHP Indigo Diaz (1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 K) pitched a perfect ninth inning, earning the save (2) for Somerset in his second consecutive appearance.
