Colorado Eagles News Release

Windsor, CO - Eagles rookie netminder Tyler Weiman was named the January Sher-Wood Central Hockey League Goaltender of the Month for the second month in a row, the Central Hockey League announced today. Weiman went 9-0-0 with a 1.34 goals against average and a save percentage of .956 in the first month of the year, paving the way for back-to-back honors as the best goaltender in the CHL.

"This honor is good not for me, but for the team, especially in the toughest part of the season," Weiman said. "With stints of four games in five nights and two games in three nights on the road we were still able to get the job done," he concluded.

The former Tri-City American also recorded three shutouts in January, all of which came on the road (1/8 at Lubbock, 1/15 at Laredo, and 1/28 at Topeka) to elevate the Colorado Eagles past the Wichita Thunder into the first spot in the CHL overall.

This season, Weiman has been solid for the Eagles, posting a league-leading eight shutouts, a goals against average of 1.62, and a save percentage of .944. He is 24-2-5 on the year and hasn't lost a game in regulation since December 21, 2004. The rookie sensation also started for the Northern Conference in the 2005 CHL All-Star Game in January, saving 19 of 21 shots for his team on the way to a 14-13 overtime victory. His eight shutouts in 2004-05 tie him for the CHL record of shutouts in a season with 19 games remaining.

The Eagles remain in first place in the Central Hockey League (29-6-6, 64 points), just two points ahead of division rival Wichita (30-10-2, 62 points) with one game in hand. Bossier-Shreveport occupies the third spot in the CHL with 56 points (26-10-4). Colorado recently ended their 12-game winning streak on February 4 in a 4-3 road loss to the Oklahoma City Blazers, but they came away with a point last weekend in a 4-3 overtime loss to Wichita on February 5. The Eagles look ahead to three home games this week, taking on the Lubbock Cotton Kings on February 9 before hosting the Oklahoma City Blazers for back-to-back contests on the 11th and 12th.
