Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
MORE THIRD PERIOD MAGIC â On Thursday night, the Mudbugs put together another impressive third period comeback as they scored three unanswered goals in a 4-3 win over the Austin Ice Bats at the CenturyTel Center. Austin would build their lead as Chris Richards scored their league-leading 11th shorthanded goal and Jeff Neufeld scored later in the second period to make it 3-1 Ice Bats. But similar to last week's game against Laredo, the Mudbugs mounted a comeback with Dan Wildfong scoring at 5:35 of the third period and then assisting on Jason Basile's seventh goal of the season to become the Mudbugs' all-time leading scorer. Then with 3:56 left in regulation, Wildfong circled around the Austin zone, walked down the slot, and beat Ice Bats goaltender Matt Barnes with a wrist shot to the top corner for the game-winning goal.
BUGS OUTLAST CORPUS CHRISTI â On Friday night, the Mudbugs defeated the Corpus Christi Rayz for the second time this season at the American Bank Center, 4-2 thanks to 28 saves from Ken Carroll and two points each from Dan Wildfong and Craig Soke. Despite trailing 3-0, Corpus Christi refused to quit early in the third period as Derek McIver and Ryan Carter scored to cut the Mudbugs' lead to just one goal. But while working on a five-minute power play chance, Ryan Manitowich found a loose puck in the slot and beat Rayz goaltender Josh Blackburn for a big insurance goal. Ken Carroll took care of the rest with 16 third period saves for his 18th win of the year.
CARROLL, MACPHERSON LEAD THE WAY â Forbes MacPherson scored two goals and Ken Carroll made 23 saves as the Mudbugs defeated the Topeka Tarantulas 3-1 on a snowy Tuesday night in Topeka, Kansas. The win was the Mudbugs' fifth in a row and improved their overall first place record to 27-10-4. Craig Soke gave the Mudbugs a 1-0 lead early in the first period on a nice pass from MacPherson and a turnaround shot past Topeka goaltender David St. Germain for his eighth goal of the season. In the second period, MacPherson scored on a breakaway but Tarantulas rookie Mike Lukajic scored on the power play to cut the Mudbugs' lead to one goal. Three minutes later, MacPherson circled around the Topeka net and wristed a shot past St. Germain for his second goal of the night and a 3-1 Mudbugs advantage.
