Urbandale, Iowa - After a streak of losses, the Bucs pull out a win in Cedar Rapids.

Last time the Buccaneers faced Cedar Rapids there were ten goals and a total of 81 penalty minutes. The first game of the weekend had these teams starting off right where they left. It took less than five minutes for the first fight to break out resulting in five-minute major-fighting and ten-minute misconduct-fighting penalties for Pelc of Des Moines and Moore of Cedar Rapids. Not even one minute later Ramsay got two minutes for tripping putting the RoughRiders on a power play. With 23 seconds left on the power play the Bucs' Kiecker-Olson was given a two-minute penalty for goalie interference giving Cedar Rapids a three-on-five advantage. The penalty kill held the RoughRiders and the Bucs came back to full strength with the score still 0-0. After only 11 seconds at full strength Des Moines took the lead with a goal by University of Maine commit, Killian Kiecker-Olson, assisted by Scout Truman with his tenth assist of the season. Seconds after the first goal of the game a two-minute penalty was assessed to Cedar Rapids for roughing when Wisdom of the RoughRiders hit defenseman Jackson Dorrington into the end of the glass by the visitor's bench. The two-minute power play came and went for the Bucs with Cedar Rapids coming back to full strength still down by one. The RoughRiders got another turn on the power play with a high sticking penalty on Paul Davey. With seven seconds left on the penalty clock Mitchell Wolfe of Des Moines was given a five-minute major-checking from behind and ten-minute game misconduct-checking from behind. With four minutes left in the period Cedar Rapids got two minutes for hooking. After 1:15 of four-on-four Vinnie Salice got his second goal of the season and brought the Bucs up 2-0. Before the puck dropped again after the goal the RoughRiders' Flinton got two minutes for cross checking Davis Burnside in front of the benches. To end the period, Szyszka flipped the puck into the net getting a bench minor-delay of game at 19:18. Szyszka saved all 16 shots on goal in the first period. Cedar Rapids would start the second period on a power play.

The Bucs held on through the RoughRiders power play and kept the score 2-0 early in the second period. The first Cedar Rapids penalty of the period came at 2:35 on Brenner with two minutes for holding. Des Moines couldn't get past the glove of Hasley and the score remained 2-0. One minute after the power play the Bucs' Burnside got a penalty for hooking. Two minutes came and went without a goal. With 12 minutes to go in the period fighting broke out in front of the north net. It started with Pascucci and Wisdom pushing each other. Then Elliott pulled Burnside from the back while Flinton grabbed him from the front. O'Hanisain and Davey came to help Burnside while Shoudy (CR) came to help Flinton and Elliott. Wisdom, while being held by the official tried to get involved again. Burnside finally got back to his feet and Flinton slammed him back down again. By the time everyone was back on their feet each player seemed to be holding onto someone else. The 8:02 mark of the second period brought five penalties for roughing. Elliott got two minutes, Flinton got four minutes, Burnside got two minutes, and Davey got two minutes respectively. 1:19 later, Henry Bartle got two minutes for high sticking. The Bucs penalty kill and Szyszka held the RoughRiders off and the period remained scoreless. The next ten minutes saw much less action than the rest of the game. With five seconds left in the period Flammang got a shot off at the blue line and scored the first Cedar Rapids goal of the game.

The Bucs started the third period off strong with Connor Pelc's first goal of the season at 2:03. The first two periods showed the Bucs playing better than they have in the past few games and the third was looking like they would get their first win in 4 games. At 3:17 more fighting broke out by the north net. Kiecker-Olson got tangled with a Cedar Rapids player and three more RoughRiders came to the boards. Tanner Latsch grabbed Percival by the collar and held him at arm's length to break up some of the fighting. Percival continued to try to get some shots at Latsch's face while an official worked to break the two up. Latsch and Percival got ten-minute misconduct and two minutes for roughing. Less than ten seconds later Paul Davey got the last penalty of the game with two-minutes for tripping, putting Cedar Rapids on the power play. After one minute, Burch got the RoughRiders' second goal of the game, bringing Des Moines' lead to one. Three minutes later Flammang got his second of the game tying it up 3-3. After another seven minutes of play Cedar Rapids took their first lead with a goal by Hanley. With 1:40 left in regulation Des Moines pulled Szyszka and added a sixth man trying to tie it up. The RoughRiders secured the win with an empty netter with 14 seconds left to play. In Szyszka's second start of the season he had 32 saves on 36 shots on goal.

Lucas Szyszka got his first USHL win in game two of the weekend with 22 saves of 25 shots on goal. Saturday's game in Cedar Rapids got off to a slower start than the previous night. The first penalty didn't come until 9:46 when the RoughRiders' Morrell got two minutes for cross checking. The Bucs couldn't capitalize on their first power play chance of the evening and the score remained 0-0. Almost five minutes went by before another penalty was called. Peters got two minutes for checking from behind putting Des Moines on another power play. The Bucs had a few chances but couldn't get past the glove of Hasley. Cedar Rapids got the first points on the board with a goal by Moore at 16:45. The period ended with the RoughRiders up 0-1.

Des Moines responded to the Cedar Rapids goal at 4:14 into the second period with John Driscoll's first goal of the season. With eight minutes left in the period, the Bucs took the lead with Killian Kiecker-Olson's sixth goal of the season. This goal gave Northeastern commit, Ethan Fredericks, his second assist of the night. At 13:47 Josh Barnes was given two minutes for interference. The RoughRiders battled, but the two minutes came and went without a goal. The final penalty of the period came to Burtch of Cedar Rapids at 17:27 for kneeing, giving the Bucs another power play opportunity. With 59 seconds left, a goal by Tanner Latsch gave Des Moines a two-point lead going into the third.

Feeling like Friday night all over again, the Bucs went into the third period leading 3-1. At 3:35 Ethan Fredericks was given a two-minute roughing penalty giving Cedar Rapids an early power play. With 53 seconds left in the RoughRiders power play, Vinnie Salice scored a short-handed goal putting Des Moines up 4-1. At 6:46, Kuzma and Murnieks got two minutes for roughing. One minute into four-on-four Burtch scored for Cedar Rapids bringing the score to 4-2. Another penalty came at 9:22 on the RoughRiders for kneeing. Cedar Rapids fought through and killed the penalty. Just three seconds later, Cedar Rapids was given a penalty for roughing. It only took 20 seconds for Scout Truman to put the Bucs ahead by another goal, 5-2. With three and a half minutes left to play Jackson Dorrington was given a two-minute penalty for cross checking. Des Moines killed the third and final Cedar Rapids power play and were closing in on their first win in five games. Flinton of the RoughRiders got his first goal of the season with just 12 seconds left in the game making the final score 5-3. The same score that had come the night before, but this time the Bucs came out on top.

The Buccaneers are back on the road to Lincoln next Friday, November 12th , and come back to Buccaneer Arena on Saturday, November 13th to play the Stars again.
