Palm Beach Cardinals News Release

JUPITER, Fla. - The Palm Beach Cardinals (26-12, 58-50) defeated the Charlotte Stone Crabs, 2 - 0, in game two of this three game series at Roger Dean Stadium. The pitchers of Palm Beach held Charlotte to just three hits in the contest. Starting pitcher, Luke Weaver, earned the win, improving his record to 5 - 5.

In the top of the second, Charlotte's first baseman, Mike Marjama led off the inning with a single to right field. Palm Beach's defense held Marjama at first, the farthest any Stone Crab would reach on the night. After giving up the single in the second, Weaver retired the next 13 in a row. The next base runner for Charlotte occurred in the sixth, when Braxton Lee hit a single up the middle.

After retiring the last two batters of the inning, Garcia was called from the bullpen to pitch for two innings. Garcia faced the minimum, striking out three Stone Crabs. In the top of the ninth, Robby Rowland came to the mound to complete the shutout. Rowland gave up a hit to lead off man, Lee, but Palm Beach turned a double play to empty the bases.

At the plate for Palm Beach, the Cardinals outhit the Stone Crabs, highlighted by Luke Voit's eighth home run of the season. The solo shot came in the bottom of the fifth, with no one on and no outs. The Cardinals' first run of the night came in the second inning after Collin Radack reached on a walk. Charlotte's starting pitcher, Chih-Wei Hu, attempted to pick off Radack, but threw the ball over Marjama's head and into Palm Beach's bullpen. Radack reached third on the error. Two pitches later, Hu's pitch was wild, giving Radack enough time to make it home.

The Beach Birds will continue their home stand on Thursday, August 5, with the series finale this three game series. Then on Friday, Palm Beach will play host to the Fort Myers Miracle for a three game series. First pitch for tomorrow's contest is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. To purchase tickets, please call (561) 630-1828 or visit RogerDeanStadium.com.
