St. Lucie Mets News Release
FORT MYERS, Fla. (August 6, 2015) - Ryan Walker lined a walk-off hit in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Fort Myers Miracle to a 6-5 win over the St. Lucie Mets on Thursday at Hammond Stadium.
The walk-off win for the Miracle spoiled another terrific comeback for the Mets, who had their five-game winning streak ended. The Mets trailed 5-1 with two outs in the eighth but rallied for two runs in the eighth and tied the game 5-5 on Matt Oberste's towering homer in the ninth.
In the bottom of the ninth, Logan Wade led off with a double against David Roseboom. Zack Granite dropped a sac bunt to move Wade to third, and Walker ripped a 2-2 pitch into right field to bring home Wade for the game winner.
Miracle starter Kohl Stewart limited the hot Mets offense to six hits and one run over seven innings. Meanwhile the Miracle built a 5-1 lead thanks to five walks by Mets pitchers.
The Mets got to the Miracle bullpen in the eighth. Todd Van Steensel inherited runners at the corners with two outs and threw a wild pitch that allowed Jeff McNeil to score and move Victor Cruzado to second. Maikis De La Cruz then singled home Cruzado to make it 5-3.
The Mets went on to load the bases in the eighth but Van Steensel struck out Champ Stuart to end the threat.
McNeil singled with one out in the ninth and Oberste blasted a two-run homer 472 feet to right to tie the game. The Mets went on to put runners at first and second but Zack Jones struck out Jhoan Urena to end the inning.
With the game tied 1-1 in the second, the Miracle scored three runs off of starter Logan Taylor to take a 4-1 lead. Taylor walked Aderling Mejia with the bases loaded to force in a run and Mitch Garver pulled a two-run single.
In the sixth, the Miracle went up 5-1 when MLB rehabber Erik Goeddel walked the first two batters he faced and gave up an eventual sac fly.
McNeil went 3 for 5 and upped his FSL leading average to .318. Oberste drove in a run for the sixth consecutive game. He now has 18 RBI in his last 13 contests.
Cruzado, De La Cruz and Urena had two hits apiece.
The Mets (56-53, 21-18) return to Tradition Field to begin a six-game home stand on Friday. First pitch vs. the Jupiter Hammerheads is at 6:30 p.m. Michael Cuddyer will be joining the team on a rehab assignment.
