Daytona Beach, FL - The Daytona Tortugas (23-15, 60-48) had their five-game winning streak snapped with a 3-1 loss to the Dunedin Blue Jays (15-24, 47-62) on Thursday Night at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

In his first start since June 15, RHP Nick Travieso struggled with his command. He walked four hitters in two-plus innings before being removed due to his limited pitch count. A Matt Dean double gave Dunedin a 1-0 lead in the first, but that would be the only damage done against Travieso. The Tortugas quickly evened the score in the bottom half with a sacrifice fly from DH Sebastian Elizalde.

LHP Seth Varner (L, 1-4) inherited two runners in the third, but managed to retire three straight batters to keep Dunedin off the board in his first frame. He would run into some trouble in the fourth, as a single from Dickie Joe Thon and a wall-ball triple by Jorge Saez gave the D-Jays a 2-1 lead. With Saez on third, Anthony Alford chopped a single over first base to extend Dunedin's edge to 3-1.

Both offenses sputtered from there. After facing five Tortugas batters in the first inning, Conner Greene (W, 2-3), Matt Dermody (H, 2) and Wil Browning (S, 15) faced the minimum over the final eight innings. Blue Jays pitching retired 24 of the final 25 Daytona hitters.

RF Jeff Gelalich reached on an infield single to lead off the fifth, but he was replaced on first after a SS Carlton Daal fielder's choice. Daal was picked off moments later.

Varner went six innings and allowed two runs on three hits with a walk and nine strikeouts. LHP Nolan Becker threw a scoreless ninth to keep the Tortugas within a pair of runs, but Browning handled Daytona in order in the bottom half.

The Tortugas had three baserunners: Gelalich's single, a first-inning error that put LF Phillip Ervin aboard and a two-out double from C Chad Wallach in the opening frame. Dunedin improved to 4-11 against Daytona this year.

The 'Tugas will hit the road for a six-game road trip, starting with a matchup in Lakeland with the Flying Tigers at Joker Marchant Stadium. RHP Jackson Stephens is scheduled to start Game 1, with first pitch at 6:30 p.m. ET. Fans can listen to the action on The Great Voice of Volusia County, AM 1230 and AM 1490 WSBB, starting with the D.B. Pickles Pregame Show at 6:20 p.m. ET.
