Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Storm Chasers scored three runs in the first inning, but the Bats scored 11 unanswered runs to take game one 11-3. The Chasers lead the season series over the Bats 7-6.
Omaha (52-59) started the first inning with a bang, scoring three runs on five hits. Left fielder Drew Waters launched a home run to start the game, the sixth time this season that the Storm Chasers have hit a first inning leadoff homer. Designated hitter Dairon Blanco and center fielder Nick Loftin each recorded an RBI single to give the Storm Chasers the early lead.
Louisville (47-65) answered in the bottom of the frame on a Colin Moran sacrifice fly to cut Omaha's lead to two runs after one full inning of play.
Cristian Santana hit a solo shot in the third inning off right-hander Jonathan Heasley to make the score 3-2 heading into the fourth.
Heasley (Loss, 1-2) allowed back-to-back walks to start the sixth, getting pulled with nobody out. With the bases loaded, Isiah Gilliam hit a double off right-hander Zach Willeman to score a pair of Bats and give Louisville their first lead of the game. The Bats continued their hot inning, using another bases-loaded double, this time from Santana, to break the score open 7-3.
Shortstop Iván Castillo recorded Omaha's first hit since the first inning to start the seventh. Waters hit a single two batters later to force Randy Wynne (Win, 5-10) out of the game after 6.1 innings. Eddy Demurias got out of the inning with a double play and keep the scoreboard still.
Louisville added two more runs in the seventh on a Colin Moran homer and a Chuckie Robinson RBI double. In the eighth, the Bats put up a couple more runs in a two-RBI ground-rule double to make the score 11-3 heading to the ninth.
After getting a pair of runners on base in the ninth, the Bats finished the game with a strikeout, taking game one 11-3.
The Storm Chasers and Bats will continue their series on Wednesday in game two. First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 p.m. CDT with coverage starting at 5:15 p.m. on the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show on 1180 The Zone. Omaha is scheduled to send right-hander Max Castillo (2-0, 1.74) while Louisville looks to start Brandon Williamson.
After this series, the Chasers return home for a six-game set against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starting on August 23. The week is full of exciting events like Bro Tank Giveaway on Saturday the 27th and Imaginary Friend Day on Sunday the 28th.
