Washington Wild Things News Release

Washington, PA-The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, jumped out to an early 8-0 lead Thursday and fought off a late Schaumburg Boomers surge to edge the home team with an 8-6 victory at Boomers Stadium.

Scott Dunn turned in a terrific outing for Washington, holding the potent Schaumburg offense to just three hits and three runs in six and a third innings, while Washington outfielder Scott Kalamar delivered a three-RBI performance.

Washington began the scoring early in the top of the first as the middle of the lineup, outfielder Scott Kalamar, third baseman Carter Bell and first baseman William Beckwith, drove in runs to give the Wild Things a 3-0 advantage. Kalamar drove in second baseman Garrett Rau with an RBI single, Bell followed with a sacrifice fly and Beckwith mimicked his teammate with his own RBI single to plate Kalamar.

The Wild Things pushed across two more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Designated hitter Dan Johnston fought off a two strike pitch and sliced an RBI double to score shortstop Ryan Kresky, 4-0. Johnston came around to score on Daniel Poma's RBI single to left to extend the Things lead 5-0.

Kalamar connected again with the bat in the top of the seventh as the second year superstar laced a two-run double for his third hit of the night putting the visitors in front 7-0. Bell drove in the Wild Things final run of the contest with a sacrifice-fly, 8-0.

However, the Boomers made things interesting late, posting a six-spot against the Washington relievers in the bottom of the seventh, but it was Washington who persevered to take the second game of the series 8-6 and capture the team's 45th win of the season.
