Oaks Has Contract Purchased by San Diego Padres

NORMAL, Ill. - The San Diego Padres have purchased the contract of right handed pitcher Alan Oaks from the Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers.
Oaks has served as the Belters closer for the past two seasons. He has appeared in 25 games this season and posted a 3.17 ERA while recording ten saves and 30 strikeouts. In 2013, Oaks appeared in 37 games and finished the year with a 1.99 ERA while earning 14 saves and striking out 59 batters. The White Lake, Mich. native is the all-time saves leader (24) for the Belters.
"Alan has been a great representative for our organization in so many ways. All season he's taken time to mentor younger players while taking care of his own business," said CornBelters Field Manager Brooks Carey. "He will be missed and we wish him nothing but the best."
Oaks was selected by Tigers in 50th round of 2006 MLB amateur draft out of high school and then again by the Marlins in the 8th round of the 2010 draft. He finished the 2012 season at the Class Double-A Jacksonville Suns, where he was 1-2 with a 6.55 ERA in four appearances in 11 innings. He appeared in 35 games in Marlins organization with 76 strikeouts, compiling a 4-7 record with 4.45 ERA.
