Washington Wild Things News Release
MARION, IL,-- The Washington Wild Things fell to the Southern Illinois Miners 2-1 at Rent One Park Saturday Night.
Starter, Steve Messner went three innings, allowing three hits and striking out three. Messner got into a jam in the bottom of the third when he allowed a bases-loaded walk, giving Southern Illinois the lead. Washington's defense, however, held the Miners to one run in the inning with with a 1-2-3 bases loaded double play.
The Wild Things' bats came alive in the top of the 4th as Matt Ford hit his first professional home run to tie the game. But the Miners' Toby DeMello would hit an RBI single in the next half inning that proved to be the winning run to put the Miners up two to one.
The teams will meet again Sunday for game three of the series when first pitch is scheduled for 6:05 EDT. Airtime on WJPA 95.3 FM and www.msasports.net is 5:55 P.M. The Wild Things return to CONSOL Energy Park Tuesday when they will host Pete Rose. Tickets are available at the box office.
