AVON, Ohio -- The Evansville Otters used a three-run sixth inning to pull away from the Lake Erie Crushers on Saturday night, as they came away with a 4-2 victory over the Crushers at All Pro Freight Stadium.

The loss for the Crushers (14-21) was their fourth in five games against the Otters this season, while the win for the Otters (24-14) improved their record to 12-5 in road games this season.

The pitching was pretty strong on both sides once again, but for the second night in a row, the Crushers left way too many on base. They stranded 11 base runners on Friday, and they left eight on base on Saturday, with a pair of runners getting thrown out at third.

Evansville opened the game with a triple to left center from Cory Urquhart. He would score moments later on John Schultz's groundout, but after Urquhart's triple, Lake Erie starting pitcher Brad Zambron (1-3) retired the next 16 batters.

Lake Erie tied the game in the bottom of the first inning. Jose Barraza reached on a one out single to left center, and advanced to third after a single from Emmanuel Quiles. Joey Burney then delivered a clutch, two-out RBI single to right center, scoring Barraza to tie the game, but Quiles was thrown out at third to end the inning.

The Crushers took their only lead of the series in the bottom of the third. Chandler Brock started the inning with a walk, before stealing second base. Barraza's groundout moved him to third base, and he scored the go ahead run on a wild pitch.

Evansville then scored three times on three hits and capitalized on the game's only error in the sixth inning to pull away. Dean Wilson's one out single in the inning made him the first Otter to reach since Urquhart's triple in the first inning. A wild pitch put Wilson at second, and he scored on a two-out single from Schultz. An infield single from Shayne Houck followed, before Jeremy Nowack hit a fly ball to right field that Brock couldn't handle, and the error allowed two runs to score.

Tyler Vail (3-2) scored the win for the Otters, allowing just a pair of runs on seven hits while fanning five over seven innings of work. Edgar Lopez (10) earned the save, by fanning three in the ninth inning, while Zambron gave a great effort in the loss, allowing three runs, only two earned on three hits while fanning seven over 5.2 innings.

Eight out of the starting nine hit safely at least once for the Crushers, and Burney led the way with the only multi-hit game of the bunch, going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles.

The Crushers will finish their three-game series with the Evansville Otters at All Pro Freight Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Right-hander Zach Morton (1-0, 0.77) will start for the Crushers, while the Otters will throw right-hander Preston Olson (5-1, 3.22). The first pitch is scheduled for 2:05 PM.
