Moose Jaw Warriors News Release
Moose Jaw, SK - The top-two teams in the Eastern Conference collide in a big late-season home-and-home set.
The Moose Jaw Warriors head into Saskatoon on Friday night and then host the Blades at the Hangar on Saturday night.
"It's exciting for us, obviously it will be a good challenge and a team that we're going to have to play if we want to win," Warriors forward Brayden Yager said.
The Warriors and Blades enter the weekend home-and-home set with their season series even at two wins each with both teams winning once at home and once on the road.
"Everybody's excited playoffs right around the corner and no better way to get prepared for that than to play the top team in the league, so it will be a big challenge for us, but we're looking forward to it," Warriors head coach Mark O'Leary said.
Moose Jaw has earned points in eight straight games after splitting their two games at home last weekend, beating Regina last Friday and then falling to Lethbridge in a shootout on Saturday.
Coming out of those games, O'Leary said the key for the Warriors this weekend will be playing with urgency.
"It's finding urgency within our game, we're playing Saskatoon but that doesn't change anything that we're doing," he said. "Whether we're playing Lethbridge, Saskatoon or [Prince Albert], we're playing our game, we just need to give them enough respect to know that they are a good team and we need to manage the puck and play with detail."
The Warriors and Blades haven't squared off since Dec. 9 with both teams going through a number of changes since then, this will be the final test for both teams before the playoffs.
Yager said the focus for the Warriors needs to be on themselves.
"We're tough to beat when we were playing fast, managing pucks and if we take care of our own end, the offence will always take care of itself, so we just need to focus on the little details in our own end and we'll be good," he said.
The Warriors and Blades square off at 7 p.m. on Friday night at SaskTel Centre and then the home-and-home set shifts to the Moose Jaw Events Centre on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Moose Jaw finishes the busy weekend with a 4 p.m. showdown against the Pats in Regina on Sunday.
