Warriors Looking to Prove Themselves against Blades
December 14, 2021 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Moose Jaw Warriors News Release
It may still be early in the season, but the Moose Jaw Warriors are treating Tuesday's game as a big game.
The Warriors host the Saskatoon Blades at Mosaic Place with the two teams separated by one point in the East Conference.
"It's not a must win, but it's a game that we've had circled for a little while here," Warriors head coach Mark O'Leary said on Monday.
This is the fifth meeting of the season between the Warriors and Blades with Saskatoon having won three straight following Moose Jaw's lopsided win in the regular season opener.
The Warriors are hoping to change the trajectory of the season series.
"Obviously we don't like the outcomes that we've had against this club the last couple of times, we've had some good games and we're looking to change that here with two points on the line," O'Leary said.
Warriors forward Eric Alarie said this is a game that Moose Jaw wants to use to prove itself.
"We want to prove that we can play with the best teams out there and especially against them," he said.
"It's more us than them whenever we play them, we don't play our game so we've got to start from the first period, first shift and if we play our game, we can definitely win."
The Warriors are coming off a split of their weekend home-and-home series against the Swift Current Broncos. Moose Jaw lost 4-1 in Swift Current on Friday, but came back and beat the Broncos, 4-2, on home ice on Saturday.
O'Leary said the Warriors have been good at bouncing back this season.
"We're looking for a bit of consistency here and there's no better time to do that than here [against Saskatoon]," he said.
The Warriors haven't won back-to-back games in regulation so far this season.
Alarie said Moose Jaw found its game in Saturday's win.
"We got our legs going early on and having the momentum going throughout the game really helped us," he said.
The Warriors and Blades meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night at Mosaic Place. Tickets are available at mjwarriors.ca or the Mosaic Place Box Office.
Tune into the game live on Country 100, starting with the Pre-Game Show at 6:40 p.m. or online at whllive.com with the IKS Media Warriors Live broadcast kicking off at 6:50 p.m.
