Ending the Homestand on a High Note
Portland enters tonight's contest on a three-game winning streak and boasts points in five straight games. Since starting their homestand against Everett on Nov. 16, the Hawks have suffered just a single regulation loss in 10 games, winning six in that span.
In the midst of what is unquestionably Portland's best stretch of the season, picking up another win against an Everett team missing several key contributors (due to the World Junior Championship) is crucial to maintain the momentum the team has built up in recent weeks. The Hawks will aim to continue their four-lines-deep attack and steady play from the back end as they wrap up the homestand tonight.
Dureau Goes for 10
With points in nine straight contests, forward Jaydon Dureau has been rolling as of late and continues to pace the Winterhawks with 1.43 points per game this season. His torrid pace has helped the Hawks average 5.6 goals per game in the last five games, something for which he credits coaches Mike Johnston, Don Hay and Brian Pellerin.
"I just think our team is really gelling well. Everyone is just working really hard and a lot of that goes back to the coaching staff," said Dureau.
After beginning the season in the AHL, Dureau returned to the team on Nov. 5. He nabbed three points in his first five games but has been nearly unstoppable since then.
"It was weird (being back in Portland) at first because I didn't really know a lot of the guys, but after meeting everybody, it's just been a really good ride so far," he said.
Dureau looks to stretch his points streak to a team-high 10 games against Everett tonight, which would tie him for the fifth-longest points streak in the WHL this year.
