
Americans Take on Thunderbirds in Last Home Game Before Christmas

The Americans will take on the Seattle Thunderbirds tonight at the Toyota Center in their final home game before the Christmas break.
Tri-City and Seattle both come into tonight's game on a three game win streak. The Thunderbirds traveled to B.C. last week where they swept the trip with two victories against Kelowna and one against Kamloops. The Americans played back-to-back games against Everett over the weekend, defeating the Silvertips in both games.
The Ams won their most recent game against Everett 5-2.
Rhett Melnyk opened scoring on Saturday in the second period as he redirected a shot from Carson Haynes. It was Melnyk's eighth goal of the season.
Everett quickly tied the game but the Ams regained their lead early in the final frame as Jake Sloan swept in a loose puck in front of the net with a backhand shot. The second-year forward is on a five game point streak with goals in the last four.
Sam Huo scored top-shelf with a shot from the left circle off a cross-ice feed from Rhett Melnyk to extend the lead. Saturday was Melnyk's first game having a goal an an assist.
With 9:00 remaining in the game, Sasha Mutala tipped a shot from Lukas Dragicevic putting the Ams up 4-1. Mutala now has goal six goals and two assists over the last five games. Dragicevic is on his first three game point streak with two goals and four assists over that period.
The Silvertips scored once more before pulling their goaltender with three minutes remaining. Tyson Greenway scored the empty net dagger to secure a the 5-2 victory.
The Americans outshot the Silvertips 37-36. Nick Avakyan stopped 34 of 36 shots faced and earned his first victory at home.
After tonight the Americans hit the road for a three game trip through B.C. before the Christmas break.
