Warriors Look to Return to Win Column against Hitmen
January 19, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Moose Jaw Warriors News Release
Coming off two tough losses over the weekend, the Moose Jaw Warriors look to rebound on Wednesday night when they host the Calgary Hitmen at Mosaic Place.
"We're in that position where we're looking for a response," Warriors head coach Mark O'Leary said after practice on Tuesday.
Throughout this season, the Warriors have responded from a rough outing with a strong one and that's what the team will be looking to do against the Hitmen.
After winning 6-2 over Medicine Hat on Friday night, the Warriors dropped back-to-back games to well rested teams in Winnipeg and Regina, who had both been off for two weeks.
Warriors captain Daemon Hunt said the team has been good at responding to adversity this season.
"Throughout the year, when we've played badly, we've had a lot of good, resilient games that we've come back and played good hockey, good Moose Jaw hockey," he said.
"We're going to be prepared for Calgary and we're going to come in hot."
Moose Jaw's only meeting with the Hitmen was a 7-1 loss back on De. 2 in Calgary.
O'Leary said he wants to see how the Warriors respond.
"We're at home, we had a good practice here today, we should good about our game right now, it's just a matter of starting on time and rolling from there," he said.
The Hitmen are led by the offensive duo of Riley Fiddler-Schultz and Sean Tschigerl, who finished with a combined six points in the last meeting between the two teams.
Hunt said playing them tight will be key to the Warriors' success.
"They can put pucks in the back of the net pretty easily, so just maintaining a good gap, having a good stick, always scanning the ice and we shouldn't have any problems," he said.
The Warriors and Hitmen face-off at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night at Mosaic Place. Tickets are available at mjwarriors.ca
After the game, the Warriors will hit the road for a three-game road trip to Alberta where they'll take on Red Deer on Saturday, Calgary on Sunday and Edmonton next Tuesday.
