PRINCE GEORGE, BC- The Prince George Cougars (16-17-1-1) kicked-off their three-game home stand with a 5-3 victory over the Victoria Royals (12-17-4-0) Tuesday at the CN Centre.
The win was the Cougars' third in a row, as they moved into sole possession of third place in the B.C. Division, six points clear of the Royals. The Cougars go for the midweek sweep tomorrow against the Royals.
GAME RECAP
Koehn Ziemmer and Jonny Hooker had a pair of goals each and Hudson Thornton lit the lamp as well. Prince George got out to a big lead, going up 3-0 through 20 minutes and led 5-0 by the seven-minute mark of the second period.
Victoria chipped away at the deficit, scoring twice late in the second period, but Prince George led 5-2 through two periods. The Royals scored inside the final minute of regulation to close out the scoring.
The power play was the key for the Cougars, as they scored three times on six power plays, with Hooker scoring twice on the man advantage. Hooker has a team-best seven power play goals.
Tyler Brennan, fresh off being named the WHL Goaltender of the Week, picked up his eighth win, as he stopped 29 shots.
QUOTE
"We got out to a real good start. It got a little dicey there in the second period with some penalties. We got away from our game a bit, but we cleaned it up in the third. It was a big win for us," said Cougars' General Manager & Head Coach Mark Lamb.
