Moose Jaw Warriors News Release
Moose Jaw, SK - Last Friday's loss in Lethbridge left a sour taste in the mouth of the Moose Jaw Warriors.
Now, the Warriors will get a shot to redeem themselves when they host the Hurricanes in downtown Moose Jaw on Friday night.
"It's an important game for us," Warriors forward Jagger Firkus said. "They're the only team ahead of us in the standings right now, they beat us last week, which doesn't sit well with much of us, especially they were chirping a little bit, so it's not the greatest feeling."
The Warriors opened last weekend's two-game road trip to Alberta with a 4-0 loss in Lethbridge.
Warriors head coach Mark O'Leary said the Warriors need to up their competitiveness heading into the rematch on Friday night.
"The biggest difference in that game was they were quicker with their second guy before we were, both in their zone and our zone, and it's tough to win puck battles when it's one versus two," he said. "I'm looking for a bit more urgency for us to get to the puck battle."
The Warriors have won two straight since that loss in Lethbridge, including a 5-3 win over Calgary on Tuesday night to open up the team's four-game home-stand.
Moose Jaw sits at 5-3-0-0 this season, which has them one point behind the Hurricanes for top spot in the Eastern Conference.
"We understand that coming off the games in Lethbridge and Medicine Hat, we want to get back on the roll that we're on and coming back home, it's always big being back here, everyone enjoys it a bit more," Firkus said.
In Tuesday's win, the Warriors scored three goals in the third period which allowed them to pull away for the win.
O'Leary said it was a game that the team played pretty well from start-to-finish.
"We got into some penalty trouble int he second period and we allowed them to get back into the game, but there's going to be ups and downs in a season, ups and downs in a game and it's all in how you stick with the plan and I thought we did that as a group," he said.
Heading into Friday's showdown with the Hurricanes, Firkus said the Warriors will be focused on limiting the chances for Lethbridge.
"They were getting second and third chances, which we shouldn't be giving up," he said. "Moving forward and coming into tonight, it's a big game for us and hopefully we can come out."
The Warriors and Hurricanes square off at 7 p.m. at the Moose Jaw Events Centre. Click here to purchase tickets.
